Quadrella of pennies today.

Managed two hunts today the first, early this morning, back to the park I found the bangle in yesterday. Picked up another $14 in goldies plus a couple of pennys, an English 1 Pound and 20p coins.
This afternoon Carol and I headed back to the park out of town where we got the coin purse spill a couple of weeks ago. No silver there today but did manage to get 4 British Monarchs in pennys, Victoria, Edward, George V and George VI...........If you include the Elizabeth II 1/2 penny thats a Quintella I guess! Also picked up a '47 shilling just koncking on the door of silver........... and '50 Florin. Add to that about 20 or so "brown Buggas" and I think you could call that a successful day's hunting. Almost forgot the pocket knife.....another one for the collection, I think that makes about 10 now. Oh..... the 303 case has CAC.......C........II. So that makes it Colonial Amunition Compay, Cordite, Mark 2......Pre WW2.

Enjoy the pics.

Royal Flush and Silver

Up early this morning for a quick hunt in a favorite park. A few nice finds in the hour and a half I was out, the best being a sterling silver bangle...........nearly didn't dig it as it was comming up the same number as a rusty bottle cap, however the signal was too large so I'm glad I did. Also managed the royal flush of old decimal, all the coins from 50c-1c and only 1 of each! Topped it off with 3 pennys and 13 bucks of goldies, so I'm a happy chappie this morning.

Badge Update

Looks to be an Infantry Staff Corps hat badge, I found this one almost identical. Not sure of the date.

Lean pickings so far this weekend.

I managed to dodge the wind and rain and get out for a couple of 1hr hunts this weekend, again cherry picking trashy areas I had given up on previously. Not much to be had, 3 bucks in spending, a few old decimals, 4 pennys, a copper nickel 1/2 crown and florin and a couple of bits of junk jewellery. The interesting finds were the "Rhodesia" badge and the marble paper weight, the brass insert in the middle had glass in it (broken) and I could see the remnants of the letters N,S,E,W so I am thinking it was a compass.

Coincidence or skill?

Went for a quick after work hunt today, back to a park I thought I had hunted out ( the same park I found my first gold ring) and thought I would cherry pick low and slow. First hit was the Kiwi penny, then 3 "brown buggers" (5c,2c,1c) and then a whisper of a signal.............high, low tones, something I would have passed over in the earlier days as trash. Dug it and came up with a 1/2 of a penny..............right next door still a whisper of a signal............dug about 7 or 8 inches and pulled out the 1918 3d. Magic! When I got home I showed the finds to Carol................ she says "this is part of a Victorian penny I can see the head and crown and I think we may already have the other halve." We checked the collection and sure enough we have the other half of the coin, we dug it back in December 2010 from the same park. I keep records of all my finds so it was easy to verify. I never, never thought I would find the other half of the same coin! I have about 6 more part pennys...............I wonder if I'll ever match them up with their partners?

AWESOME, AWESOME FINDS TODAY!

After finding the old florin yesterday, I didn't really think I could top that today...........How wrong I was! We headed out of town armed with a picnic and willing to spent most of the day hunting an old park about 50 k's away. We had been there before and picked up quite a few pennys and a couple of silvers, so it was well worth another look. So we start off well, the first couple of hits were pennys, then plenty of old decimal brown buggars and copper nickel coins. A couple of goldies, a few more pennys and we were about ready to wrap it up after 3 hrs or so.....................Then, well the F4 screamed at me, the numbers were 99,100,98,100...bloody hell I thought a big bit of rusty iron. Dug it anyway.........I had one of those feelings you get.....you know the ones. LOL. Out pops this massive hallmarked pocket watch back. KaChing! All of a sudden I don't feel like heading home just yet. Couldn't find the rest of the watch but did turn up 3 nice silvers looking for it. OK, now its time to head off, I just wave the detector casually in front of me as we are walking back to the car and get a nice penny signal.................Yep, would be nice to go out on a good coin so I dig the nicest plug you have ever seen and there is green in the bottom of the hole. It's a penny, great! I'm about to throw it in the bag and close the plug when Carol says "I think there is more in there, I can see the outline of another coin on the penny". So I sweep over the hole again and again until I have 3 pennys and 3 silvers and the remains of a leather coin purse! Two of the silvers were Victorian, an 1874 shilling and a 1900 Shilling. One of the pennys was also Victorian 1901.
To say the least..........I was EXCITED!

Silver Florin

Here's a pic of the other side.

More shiney stuff!

Beautiful clear skys this morning, so went out for a quick early morning hunt, once again back to an old favorite spot for some cherry picking amongst the ring pulls. Managed to come up with these beauties..... an Edward VII florin, a 1917 3d and a 1912 1/2 penny. Suffice to say, I'm as happy as Larry this morning. Hope the good weather and good luck keeps up for the rest of the weekend.

Rain,rain GO AWAY!

Well the weather people finally got it right and the sky cleared this afternoon after a solid week of rain, hail and plenty of snow on the mountain. I got home from work today around 4ish and as I was suffering from treasure hunting withdrawal symptoms, and the sky was clear, I was determined to get a short hunt in. I didn't care if all I dug was pull tabs and bottle caps................I was determined to get out there and do it! Went back to a favorite spot just 5 mins drive away not really expecting to find much as I had been over and over it many times before. This time I decided to  dig all the really "iffy" deep signals I may have skipped over before, hoping for the best and maybe a coin or two. The first couple of signals turned out to be big slabs of rusty iron very deep............around 12 -15 inches, but I stuck to my plan and after an hour and a half came up with these, all pre decimal and one more Victorian for the collection. It just goes to show, those "iffy" signals are well worth digging.

Interesting coin spill

Dodged the rain this afternoon and went to check out a new location.............absolutlely skunked bar a solitary 1c piece! Never mind, you'll never know if you don't go.......... Anyway I headed back to one of my favorite haunts on the off chance I may have missed something, and lo and belold the wonderful council has been in the bush spraying the noxious wandering jew. This gave me more access to hunt an area I've had to go around before. First hit was a bouncy 45-70 on the F4, It just didn't make sense to me...... usually those numbers would be a beavertail ring pull or some rusted iron but I decided to dig anyway. First out of the hole was a 1c followed by a 2c, great I thought an old decimal coin spill...............next was a 10c/1shilling, ok so now I know why the bouncy numbers, copper nickel and copper..........makes sense. I thought that was it, waved the coil over the hole to make sure and got a 61.........WTF.........Dug a bit more and out pops a lovely 1937 shilling! Once more over the hole...........and a out comes another 1c. So do I have one old decimal coin spill over the silver shilling, or were they all together? I'm still trying to work that one out. Also dug 3 pennys and a couple of other old decimal coins.............Not to shabby for an hour or so under threatening weather conditions. Here are a couple of pics of the finds.
