Still Dreaming...........!

We had an awful storm here last week that knocked down several of my trees, so last weekend was taken up with cleaning up the mess and chain sawing trees into firewood blocks. Today dawned fine and sunny so we headed back to "the field". The steers have been doing great work chomping the grass down to a manageable length for swinging a little closer to the ground. Dug another 63 coins today with 7 silvers. Still not finished yet, got about 1/3 of the field still to do............Stay tuned.

The Dream Continues........

Back to the Field this afternoon to work over the "steer" side, they are frisky but friendly and easily bored watching a 50s something couple digging holes in their paddock. 44 more coins from this side so far, including 2 silver shillings. I like the sheriff badge, made in Brisbane Australia by Metal Products Pty Ltd under liscense to DGMT, London England. The lead horse is complete and still has some original paint. The  lens looking thing is in fact a camers lens. It has engraved around the lens....... The Aldis Uno 77 Anastigmat. I spoke to the farmer today and encouraged him to move the steers over into the long grass. Done deal! Easier detecting next time I hope. He mentioned he had lost a pocket knife, yes, the one we found last hunt. I'll be returning it to him on our next visit.
Not finished here by a long shot........stay tuned for the next exciting episode!

Field of Dreams 3, a bit more silver and a little bit of GOLD!

Back to the field today for another 3 hr hunt, we were working among the longer grass so all the signals were mere whispers. Still came up with another 40 coins, only the one silver but the little heart locket is 10ct gold. We are very happy with that little lot. The farmer has sectioned half the field off with an electric fence to keep his 2 steers in, we have been working on the "non steer" side with the longer grass. Tomorrow we plan to hunt the "steer" side where the grass has been eaten down to easy detecting length. He assures us the steers are friendly................

I Have a gut feeling that this place still has more to give up. Stay tuned for the next episode.

Field of Dreams 2....More Silver!

The weather forcast was for crappy rain today so we shot out to the Field of Dreams early this morning with the aim of getting a couple of hours in before the rain. We wern't dissapointed, another 64 coins including 17 pennys, 4 1/2 pennys, 7 silvers, the usual copper nickel florins, shillings and 6ds. Plenty more brown buggers and a nice stg locket and small stg ring. Only done about 10% of the field so far but there seems to be one area where all the finds are concentrated. I suspect this is where they held their gala days.

Field of Dreams........Epic Hunt!

Okay, I'm not going to ramble on too much about this one........ (yes I am!) We headed back to the old closed school we hunted last weekend to grid in the opposite direction and hopefully pick up a few we may had missed. While we were there, a car drives in and cruises up to us. The lady in the car was in her 60s(ish) and told us we were wasting our time looking here, that she went to this school as a child and we should be looking across the road in the field where the school sports ground originally was, and thats where they held their galas............. She also told us that the field was still part of the school and not the farm next door and we could dig away to our heatrs content. Wow........a little local knoweledge is worth a lot. We headed over into the field, had a hit straight away, the first penny of about 20 or so. Thus began an epic 4 hr hunt that resulted in our best day yet....79 coins, 34 of them pre decimals, 8 silver coins, a stg silver RNZAF wings badge, some copper nickel pre decimals, a couple of goldies and a pile of old decimal. Oh and the  red cross badge and small brass buckle. We are very tired, very sore and very likely going back tomorrow for another going over as we only scratched the surface.
Here are the pics.......Hope you enjoy as much as we did!

Low, Slow and methodical gets the finds....

After the 'weather bomb' storm comming through on Friday night, I spent the day yesterday cleaning up the mess, primearily the fallen tree across my driveway! Just missed the front fence and one of our cars by about 1/2 a metre. Hope you all got through without too much drama.
Today dawned bright and sunny & much cooler because we have had quite a dump of snow on the mountain overnight. We decided to go back to the old school out of town where we dug the silver 1/2 crown last weekend. I thought I had been pretty thorough last week and not missed much but the  lure of more goodies called me back. Today I took the time to grid the grasssed area ( about 20mX20m ) and overlap my swings. Low and slow was the call, digging everything that registered above iron, including all those iffy, jumpy signals. The picture shows the results..........no silver but plenty of good finds. 46 more coins, 5 of them pre decimals, a couple more goldies, another ring similar to a couple of others I have dug before, a nice heart locket....gold plated I think, my compulsory knuckelbone and a NZ Forces button. Not bad for a 3 hr hunt.
