6 More silvers this weekend

This weekend my better half and I decided to take advantage of the reasonably fine weather and hunt further afield. We cruised to another town about a 1/2 hour away that I had a hunch might produce.......... I checked it out first on Google Earth and saw a couple of spots that I would be worth trying out. Well my hunch was right, on Saturday we arrived around 1.30pm and not 5 minutes later had the first hit.........a solid 63 on the F4. It was a silver 3d, I knew then this was a good spot. We hunted until around 4pm and ended up with 6 pennies, 2 1/2 pennies, a silver 3d and a silver shilling. Also dug a nice NZ airforce button and around 10 assorted 1c and 2c. The only modern coin of the day a solitary $1.
Today (Sunday) saw us head back to the same spot, this time I was keen to go over the same ground low and slow as they say, there is a fair bit of iron in the ground as well as lead headed nails close together so I was careful to  home in on the better signals. Again the first hit of the day was silver, another solid 63-64, interestingly enough the same numbers that $1 and $2 coins come up, this one was a shilling. I new then we were going to have another productive afternoon. We hunted for about 2 1/2 hours and ended up with 4 silvers for the day and another bunch of pennies, not to mention the heap of old decimal stuff I tossed into the jar. Here are the best finds of the weekend.

You might just be supprised how much they are worth in silver content!
I did mine the other day and have over $400 in melt value...............of course I would never melt or sell them, they are far too precious.

My Treasure Chest

Well guys, seeing as I have a bit of catching up to do, I thought I would post some pics of my Treasure Chest...........these are my best finds this year, all the silver, the rings and a few other bits and pieces. The bullets are 68 cal from the time of the land wars in the 1860's. Over the next few days I'll be posting more of my finds from over the last 6 months or so, just so you can see what we get down here. I'll include the cutlery and keys of course, the spending money and the prize pennies. Will even collect a weeks worth of trash just to compare!

Enjoy these pics.

My Backyard

Here is the view I get from my house.................Just Awesome!

This weeks goodies

This week the weather has been a bit fickle...........however I did manage to get out a couple of times after work for an hour or so. No more daylight saving means it is now starting to get dark around 5.30 and my latest hunting area is very bushy so the light goes fast. Two fantastic finds this week made it worth the cold wind and rain, the first on Thursday evening was a gold ring, only my second one so far. As you can see it has a nice large red stone and some small diamonds, I think the red stone is a garnet, I'm hoping its a ruby! The other find on Saturday morning was my first silver NZ half crown, its in really great condition for a 1934 coin. I'm really chuffed with that one, it completes my NZ silver collection. As luck would have it, I went out again this morning for a couple of hours and scored another half crown, this one alas was only copper nickel(1950). For those detectorists not in New Zealand, our silver cions were first minted in 1933 and changed to copper nickel after 1946. Copper pennies were first minted in 1940 and continued until the introduction of decimal currency in 1967. Prior to 1933 all coinage in use in New Zealand was mainly English and some Australian. Its interesting of all the English pennies I have found, none date after 1940, perhaps they were removed from circulation when NZ minted their own pennies.
