Field of Dreams........Epic Hunt!

Okay, I'm not going to ramble on too much about this one........ (yes I am!) We headed back to the old closed school we hunted last weekend to grid in the opposite direction and hopefully pick up a few we may had missed. While we were there, a car drives in and cruises up to us. The lady in the car was in her 60s(ish) and told us we were wasting our time looking here, that she went to this school as a child and we should be looking across the road in the field where the school sports ground originally was, and thats where they held their galas............. She also told us that the field was still part of the school and not the farm next door and we could dig away to our heatrs content. Wow........a little local knoweledge is worth a lot. We headed over into the field, had a hit straight away, the first penny of about 20 or so. Thus began an epic 4 hr hunt that resulted in our best day yet....79 coins, 34 of them pre decimals, 8 silver coins, a stg silver RNZAF wings badge, some copper nickel pre decimals, a couple of goldies and a pile of old decimal. Oh and the  red cross badge and small brass buckle. We are very tired, very sore and very likely going back tomorrow for another going over as we only scratched the surface.
Here are the pics.......Hope you enjoy as much as we did!

  2. Sure do learn something everyday, something I have found out is that at old racetracks in days gone by the fair or circus would camp in the inside of the track.something that most overlook....great finds congrats.
